August Already -- August 14, 2011 |
|
Half-way through August already and only a couple of weeks till school. At the end of July I spent a week at a music camp at Berklee. Yes Berklee in Boston. The plane ride down was good and nobody lost passports or anything else important. Of course I was up till 1:00 AM because I was competing in Edmonton Undiscovered and I had to get up at 3:00 AM so we could catch our plane. The upside was my instant adjustment to Boston time and getting up for 8 AM classes. The down side..exhaustion. Berklee was fun. Working in an ensemble of musicians and vocalists was new and challenging. They also tested our basic theory knowledge and taught their version of introductory theory. Who knew being able to recognize a D flat Major second inversion chord would come in handy and that everyone is expected to know things like scales along with their relative majors and minors. Thank-you Curtis and RCM vocal exams. Unfortunately now my parents are saying "I told you so" about learning theory being important. Boston was amazing. There were burial grounds and ghost tours, an aquarium where I got to pet and kiss a seal (uhh fish breath). There was Salem with the witch trials and miles of sand at Revere beach. Best of all no rain and no mosquitoes. Back in Edmonton I am now in the top 10 of Edmonton Undiscovered which means we had to swap our Taylor Swift ticket from Friday to Thursday night. Not sure how we did that but that's what parents are for. I played at the Vegreville Country fair and my music is being played at CFBX the Koop in Kamloops BC. A busy summer with more to come. Bye Rebecca
